Lauriña - Low Caf

Introducing the white series: a place for coffees that don’t quite fit into our regular line-up but are not wild or weird enough for the black series either. The white series will be a home for unique, high end coffees processed in a more traditional style. These will all be exceptional coffees that we fell in love with, but might just be too expensive for your daily cup.

This on is something we wanted to offer since the start of replica: an amazing Lauriña natural low-caf. It’s a very rare variety that is particularly tricky to cultivate. Laurina is low in caffeine (about a third to half of regular arabica-, which means it lacks some of the natural insecticidal properties that benefit other coffee varieties. Its yields are also lower, and it is relatively slow-growing. Nonetheless, its unique flavour profile and lower caffeine content are inspiring a surge of popularity. When working at the Barn we tried our first ever Lauriña and have been in love ever since. Not only for the low caffeine content, which means we can enjoy a coffee in the afternoon that doesn’t have ‘that decaf taste’, but also because it’s high sweetness makes for a very comforting cup.

Fincamigos is an experimental farm run by Cafexport. Here they are exploring more sustainable ways to cultivate high-quality specialty coffee. They hope to make a more lasting positive social impact and to preserve and rejuvenate coffee farm ecosystems. Their lots are comprised of some of the mostly highly-sought-after coffee varieties including Sudan Rume, Geisha, Tabi and the Laurina in this lot. These varieties are all known for their high cupping scores and complex profiles.
